Cambodia Airports received close to 4 million passengers for seven months of 2016

Cambodia Airports received nearly 4 million passengers and 42,000 flights movements from January to July 2016, an increase of 5.4% and 2.7% respectively compared to the same period in 2015.

Cargo tonnage increased by 20.8% to 26,686 tons due to the continued increase in regular and charter freighters.


Phnom Penh International Airport received almost 271,000 passengers in July 2016, an increase of 6.0%, while Siem Reap International Airport handled almost 251,000 passengers, growing 9.4% year-on-year. Passenger traffic at Sihanouk International Airport increased by 52.1% to 15,744 passengers due to the resuming of International regular and charter flights from China and Vietnam and the increase of domestic flights..
Flights Movements
Phnom Penh International Airport handled more than 2,600 flight movements, falling 1.9% due to the decrease of domestic flights, while Siem Reap, with more than 2,800, was up 2.4% compared to last year. Flight movements in Sihanouk International Airport increased by 29.4% to 242.
Cargo tonnage in Phnom Penh Cargo Terminal grew by 38.0% while Siem Reap Airport Cargo Terminal saw 6.6% less cargo compared to July 2015.


Cambodia Angkor Air linked Cambodia to Vietnam's Coastal Resort
Cambodia Flag Carrier, Cambodia Angkor Air launched trice weekly flights from Cambodia's tourist destination, Siem Reap, to Vietnam's coastal resort, Da Nang, on July 1, 2016.

According to the airlines' Press Release, the new link will provide new option with competitive price for tourists and businessmen travelling between Siem Reap and Danang. Passengers travelling from Siem Reap to Danang are able to link to other destinations in Vietnam on code-share flights with Vietnam Airlines.

Cambodia Angkor Air strongly believes that new service will attract more tourists from Danang to visit world heritage site “Angkor Wat”, Siem Reap and vice versa. In the near future, the airline will consider increasing frequency up to daily operation” stated the Press Release.

The airline started three flights a week every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with a 68-seater ATR72-500. The new service is 3rd International routes that the carrier launched in 2016.
Beijing Capital Airlines launched Haikou - Siem Reap Scheduled Services
With effect from July 19, 2016, Capital Airlines, a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines, began operating twice weekly direct flights linking Haikou, capital of South China's Hainan Province, and Cambodia's tourist city, Siem Reap.

To facilitate passengers' demand for both China and Cambodia with a better direct flight travel experience, Beijing Capital Airlines also started once weekly scheduled flights service from Haikou to Cambodia's Capital City on July 21, 2016.

The flights from Haikou are scheduled to leave on every Tuesday and Saturday to Siem Reap and every Thursday to Phnom Penh with 173-seat Airbus 320.

Plaza Premium Group opened its second lounge at Siem Reap International Airport
Plaza Premium Group, a Hong Kong-based and the market leader in Premium Airport Services, opened its second lounge in Siem Reap International Airport on July 20, 2016.

The Plaza Premium Lounge, located at the International Departure Terminal, offers comfortable seating, freshly prepared hot meals and a wide selection of beverage options, shower facilities with amenities, VIP room, massage treatment services, recharging stations and complimentary Wi-Fi, is open to all travellers for a fee.

The new lounges come as part of an expansion project that aims to double the commercial area in both airports, which was ready in the first quarter of 2016.
