CAMBODIA AIRPORTS HANDLED MORE THAN 5.5 MILLION IN TEN MONTHS OF 2016



Cambodia Airports received more than 5.5 million passengers and 59,000 flights movements from January to October 2016, an increase of 6.7% and 2.9% respectively compared to the same period in 2015.

Cargo tonnage increased by 22.0% to 38,718 tons due to the continued increase in regular and charter freighters.


TRAFFIC HIGH LIGHT

Passengers
With the addition of Spring Airlines' direct flight from Guangzhou on September 30, Phnom Penh International Airport received more than 282,000 passengers in October 2016, an increase of 11.2%, while Siem Reap International Airport handled more than 262,000 passengers, growing 9.0% year-on-year due to additional flights of Spring Airlines from Guangzhou on September 9, 2016.

Passenger traffic at Sihanouk International Airport increased by 152.7% to 17,691 passengers, spurred by ongoing international flights to and from several cities of China.
Flights Movements
Phnom Penh International Airport handled more than 2,800 flight movements, an increase of 4.5% year-on-year. Although domestic travel continued to decline against last year, international numbers maintained a steady growth, and received an additional boost from the additional flights of Spring Airlines connecting Phnom Penh to Guangzhou.

Siem Reap marginally grew 0.1% to more than 3,000 movements as the airport welcomed new flights of Sky Angkor Airlines to Tianjin 3 flights per week.

The additional charters from China brought the flight movements in Sihanouk International Airport to 279, an increase of 55.0%.
Cargo
Cargo tonnage in Phnom Penh Cargo Terminal continued to grow at 29.9% while Siem Reap Airport Cargo Terminal handled 14.4% less cargo compared to October 2015.

EVENTS HIGHLIGHTS

Sihanouk International Airport hits 100,000 Passengers Mark
On October 21, just 5 days shy of the beginning of Winter 2016-2017 Season, Sihanouk International Airport broke the 100,000th passenger mark. The traffic from January to October 2016 recoded a 39.0% increase compared to the same period last year. It reached the milestone with the arrival of Cambodia Angkor Air flight K6 839 from Ho Chi Minh City landing at 1602h.

To cope with the steady increase of passengers, Cambodia Airports launched an upgrading program to significantly expand the airport's terminal with the capacity to handle 500,000 passengers per year. The commissioning of the new facilities is estimated to take place in the second quarter of 2017.

In 2015, passenger throughput at Sihanouk International Airport recorded a 118% increase compared to 2014.
Cambodia Angkor Air Resumed Siem Reap - Hanoi Route
Cambodia Angkor Air resumed its operations for the Siem Reap - Hanoi route from October 30, 2016. This regular flights operated daily with a 180-seat Airbus A320.

The new service is 3rd International routes to Vietnam that the carrier launched in 2016 after Sihanoukville - Ho Chiminh City and Siem Reap - Da Nang.
